Stop the Skip! Repairing Floors is Much Smarter, Cheaper and More Sustainable

Stop the Skip! Repairing Floors is Much Smarter, Cheaper and More Sustainable

Although the world of construction is striving to cut carbon and waste, flooring is often overlooked.

When it comes to dodgy flooring – replacement is still the first port of call. From hollow screeds to creaky boards, the common response is to rip it out and put new flooring down – rather than attempt a fix. This creates hundreds of thousands of tonnes of needless waste annually.

At Floor-Fix Pro, we want to change this with products like the InjectaFix™ range. Our message is simple - repair, don't replace!

The Hidden Environmental Cost of Our Floors

There’s a huge amount of flooring waste generated every year – in the UK alone, we throw away 400,000 tonnes every year! Much of this stems from a default "rip it out" mentality rather than unavoidable failure.

We're often told we need to throw away floors that could be saved by a simple repair – it’s a costly and unsustainable habit!

Often, the actual flooring is fine and it’s subfloor issues or adhesive failures that are to blame for problems. Despite this, the typical response is full removal and replacement. In addition to the waste and carbon footprint of this process, it’s also more costly, labour intensive and disruptive for everyone involved.

My Accidental Journey into Sustainable Flooring

I didn’t set out to improve the sustainability of the flooring industry. In 2018, I was a new dad trying to get my newborn daughter to sleep – but the noisy floor was making things extremely hard!

I went to work to solve the problem, and invented Stop Creak, which sold tens of thousands globally. I knew I was onto something, and decided to make a proper business out of it.

Then lockdown hit, cancelling a planned appearance on Dragon's Den and crippling my supply chain in the process!

With the business on the edge (and unexpected time on my hands), I addressed the rest of the flooring issues I had around the home, including loose laminate and wobbly tiles. It was at this point I realised just how bad the throwaway culture in flooring is!

The result of this was an even bigger range of precision repair tools for DIYers and commercial use, and Floor-Fix Pro was born with a new mission – to repair, not replace.

Changing a Throwaway Habit

One of the biggest challenges we have as a business is shifting the industry's ingrained 'replacement first' culture.

Minor issues often lead to full removal, seemingly easier or more profitable than investigating and fixing the problem. But understanding the sub-surface issue usually reveals a simpler, less wasteful fix.

This thinking can deliver huge benefits in retrofitting and refurbishment projects, where existing flooring is rarely reused – even if it’s perfectly fine!

Another huge issue is the adhesive market: two million sealant cartridges hit UK landfills weekly. A huge proportion of these are half full, and discarded due to dried-up, unworkable adhesive – a flaw that only benefits manufacturers when customers have to buy again for every project (our Just the tip solves this!).

Floor-Fix Pro is set on making sustainable repair the first response.

Helping Hit Green Targets

Our products are all sustainability focused.

As buildings target BREEAM, LEED, and NABERS ratings, commercial clients demand Scope 3 clarity, and customers want green solutions, repair-first approaches lower carbon and improve lifetime performance.

All the products we have to offer:

  • Reuse existing flooring – extending the life of materials and cutting carbon.
  • Cut waste – significantly reducing waste sent to landfill.
  • Are quick and easy to use – reducing disruption.

Bringing Floors Back to Life with Innovative Solutions

Our InjectaFix™ range features targeted repair products that stabilise and bond existing floors in minutes, often without removing surface materials—ideal for time-critical settings like hospitals and schools.

One of the innovations I’m immensely proud of is our patent-pending 'Just The Tip'™ universal cartridge tip. This stops cartridges from gumming up and becoming unusable, cutting single-use plastic and fitting various adhesive applications for a more reusable, eco-friendly system. We’re keen to share this tech to boost industry sustainability.

Complementing this is Twist & Grout™, a no-waste grouting solution with colour matching and a tidy finish – so you won’t have to worry about half-used tubs. These products aren't just fixing floors; they're cutting replacement materials, transport emissions, and landfill waste.

Better for the Planet and for Your Pocket

Sustainability isn’t the only benefit of our products. The cost savings are also a big plus for contractors and engineers.

Repairing floors means projects take far less time, and for customers, this means less disruption and downtime. This is especially important in sectors where buildings need to stay open and operational, like retail, education, healthcare and warehousing.

For facilities managers trying to cut costs and carbon at the same time, repair technologies can be a game-changer.

Changing the Industry - One Floor at a Time

I’m incredibly proud that Floor-Fix Pro now supplies customers in over 50 countries. And it’s fantastic that another of our products, The Plank Grabber™, won the 2025 National Flooring Innovation Award – a real testament to its effectiveness and clever design.

The flooring industry might not be the flashiest corner of the construction industry, but it’s one of the most wasteful, and one of the easiest to change. With tools like our InjectaFix™ range and other Floor-Fix Pro products, engineers, contractors, and architects now have new ways to reduce emissions, save money, and boost their green credentials.

Adopting a "repair-first" mindset isn't just about sorting out a few squeaky floorboards; it’s about fundamentally rethinking how we approach building maintenance and sustainability.
